Hey all! In this blog I’m going to talk about how my school went to go plant trees! We went to a beautiful park in Durham with an organization called Keep Durham Beautiful leading us through this journey! The City of Durham is planting 8,500 trees in neighborhoods and parks! Keep Durham Beautiful is helping our community to become better than before!
Like what I am about to tell you about! Our community went to a park and planted trees! The employees gave us an all hands in demonstration on how to plant a tree. Then off we went on our adventure! We had to dig up a deep hole and soften up the dirt and roots of our tree before we put it in. Then after that we had to pack the dirt right back into the hole, and just like that we were done! It’s that easy to plant a tree!
It’s history time! We all planted trees in Hillside park! In 1922 they built a Hillside Park High School on the property. This high school was the first high shook in Durham to educate black students. Before this school came to be there was only a middle school for black students that ended in 8th grade, then after that there was no high school for them 😕. This became very popular and a big hit!
Thanks so much for learning about what I did and some history behind it! Bye!
